UAE Salary Calculator: Gross to Net Pay
Enter basic salary, allowances, overtime and deductions to see gross pay and take-home pay. For UAE nationals it also works out the pension deduction, and it shows what the employer sets aside on top.
Earnings
Used to find the hourly rate for overtime.
Employee type
11% for those who joined the scheme from October 2023, 5% for earlier members. Change it if yours differs.
Deductions
An estimate from the numbers you enter. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
How the calculation works
- Gross pay is basic salary plus allowances, any bonus or commission, and overtime.
- Overtime is paid on the basic wage. The hourly rate is basic salary divided by 30 days and by the hours in your working day, then multiplied by 1.25 for normal overtime or 1.5 for night overtime between 10pm and 4am.
- Pension (UAE nationals only): the employee rate multiplied by the contribution salary, which is basic salary plus fixed monthly allowances, up to a ceiling. Overtime, bonuses and one off payments are left out.
- Take-home pay is gross pay less the pension deduction and any other deductions you enter. There is no personal income tax in the UAE.
Worked example
An expatriate on AED 10,000 basic with AED 4,000 housing and AED 1,000 transport, and 8 hours of overtime at 125%. The hourly rate is 10,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = AED 41.67, so overtime is 8 × 41.67 × 1.25 = AED 416.67. Gross pay is AED 15,416.67. With AED 300 of health insurance deducted, take-home pay is AED 15,116.67.
What the employer pays on top
- Expatriates: the employer sets aside end of service gratuity, about 21 days of basic pay a year in the first five years, which is roughly 5.8% of basic salary each month. It is not deducted from the employee. Use the gratuity calculator for the full figure.
- UAE nationals: the employer contributes to the pension scheme. The calculator shows the headline employer rate, and some employees under a salary threshold have part of it covered by the government, so check your own position.
Common questions
Is there income tax on salaries in the UAE?
No. The UAE does not charge personal income tax on salaries, so an expatriate's take-home pay is the gross salary less any deductions such as insurance contributions, loan repayments or unpaid leave.
How is overtime calculated in the UAE?
Overtime is paid at the hourly rate of the basic wage plus at least 25%, and at least 50% extra for overtime between 10pm and 4am. The calculator takes the hourly rate as basic salary divided by 30 days and by the hours in a working day. Overtime rules do not apply to everyone, for example shift workers and some managerial roles.
Do expatriates pay social security in the UAE?
No. Expatriates do not make pension contributions. They are entitled to end of service gratuity instead, which the employer sets aside and which does not come out of the employee's salary.
How is the pension deduction for UAE nationals calculated?
UAE nationals in the private sector are covered by the national pension scheme. The employee's contribution is a percentage of the contribution salary, which is basic salary plus fixed monthly allowances, up to a ceiling. The rate depends on when the person joined the scheme, so the calculator lets you choose the rate.
Is the result exact?
It is an estimate from the figures you enter. Your payslip can differ because of unpaid leave, mid month joining or leaving, company specific deductions or changes to pension rates, so use it for planning and offer comparisons rather than as a payroll record.

This calculator is a general estimate and not legal, tax or payroll advice. Overtime rules do not cover every role. Pension rates, ceilings and contribution rules for UAE nationals change and differ by authority (for example Abu Dhabi members are covered separately), so confirm current figures with the relevant pension authority before relying on them.
